7/24 – 7/30
2 mile warm up
15 x 30 seconds @ 5k pace or faster
1 minute jog in between each interval, 3 minute jog after intervals 5 and 10
2 mile cool down
The heat and intervals wiped me out. For pictures from Friday, check out 109 Degrees!
Long Run….14 miles easy over a hilly course. 800 ft climb.
Average Pace – 8:17/mile
I increased my pace every couple miles, and I felt strong at mile 14.
Hot. Humid. Yesterday’s heat index was 107 degrees at 5:00 p.m.
I ran the majority of my miles in the Altra Escalantes, my new favorite lightweight trainer. The wider toe box allowed me to grip the ground/shoe like I can with the Vibram Five Fingers. For most of my long runs, I wear the Vibram Five Fingers or my super lightweight racing flats, and if I am doing a long run in trainers on a treadmill, I usually kick off my shoes halfway through and finish running barefoot. That said, I was pleasantly surprised when I ran comfortably in my Altra Escalantes for my 14 mile run!
I tried out the On Cloud Racers the previous week, and I liked them but only for 4 mile runs or shorter. On made some changes to the Cloud Racer, now the Cloud Rush, and I have not tried them out yet.
