Cowtown Marathon Training

Week 7 was my toughest week yet, and I am happy to say that I made it. 86.6 miles.

8 miles easy?

I ran easy up until mile 6 when I realized I was going to be late for Operating Systems if I didn’t pick up the pace. Monday was also Presentation Day in Computer Hardware, my evening class. I was nervous. Major race day nervous. Heart pounding through my chest nervous.

An amazingly unexpected thing happened though! Once I stood up in front of the class and started talking, my heart stopped racing, and anxiety vanished. My presentation went smoothly, and now I’m looking forward to the next one!

Tempo Tuesday in Threes

3 mile warm up

3 miles @ 6:53/mile

3 minute rest

3 miles @ 6:53-7:00/mile

3 mile cool down

This workout was not as comfortable as I wanted it to be, but without a break in mileage, and just having raced in the 15k, comfortable was probably too much to hope for.

4 afternoon miles

8 sleepy miles

12 more

Friday’s Never Giving Up 200’s

4.something mile warm up

20x200s (5:30-6:00 pace) with a 200 meter super slow jog in between

3 mile cool down

(13 miles total)

This workout left me wiped out beyond wiped out.

4 afternoon miles

8 miles and a nap

The cold front forced me inside for my long run. 18 miles seems never ending on the treadmill. 10 miles at an easy pace. 8 miles faster. Pushing the pace the last eight was a challenge from the start. Week 7 straight up wore me out, but I feel like I have just the right amount of time to rest up for the Cowtown Marathon.

I used Tailwind today for hydration, and I drank more than usual. The heat was on a little too high near the treadmills.

I’ve worn out another pair of Vibram Five Fingers, but luckily they are still on sale from Amazon! They are my official marathon shoe.

Coming up this week

Tempo run, hills, and a shorter long run
